SDSU Campus Serves as Setting for Viral Megamind Prank Videos

A series of prank videos featuring an individual dressed as the animated character Megamind were recently filmed on the campus of San Diego State University (SDSU) in San Diego, California. The videos, posted by TikTok user @juicy.jacobb, show the costumed individual and a companion performing short staged pranks involving students in various campus locations.

In the recordings, the performer is seen engaging in minor acts of mischief, including pretending to steal a wallet and walking through the campus bike lane. One video shows the individual pieing a dorm resident in the face. Another shows the Megamind impersonator telling students to cheat on their exams . Each video uses the viral “How evil?” phrase from the Megamind movie and includes typical short-form video editing.

The videos above, both having over 1 million likes (2M and 4M, respectively),  were filmed in public spaces on campus. Students in the clips appear to be genuine bystanders. No damage or formal complaints have been reported in connection with the recordings.

SDSU has not issued an official statement regarding the videos. University policies generally require permission for commercial filming and outline rules for the use of campus facilities in media projects. It is not clear whether the creators sought prior approval to film on university property.

The Megamind videos have been circulated widely on TikTok and Instagram, receiving high engagement due to the recognizable character and the setting of an active college campus. At this time, no disciplinary action or university investigation has been publicly announced.

The recordings showcase the use of university campuses as backdrops for online content and the continued overlap between student environments and digital media production.
